In the wise words of Office Space, this is a suck!

Here's today in a summary. Cried, got $35 stolen from my wallet.

If only I'd cried because the $35 was stolen I wouldn't feel like quite so much of a sap. Today was graduation for the college I work for, and seeing my "babies" graduate after what (for some of them) were 2 very long years made me a little emotional. Then when I went back to what was supposed to be a secure room, I (along with several other graduation volunteers) found that all the money had been taken from my wallet. Luckily, it was just the cash -- ID and credit card were still in there.

So, what can I say except, "This is a suck."

And the hits just keep on coming....

I was dreading the idea of moving to Scranton, PA. Dreading only slightly less the idea of moving back to New York. But now there's a new thing to dread. BC has an interview in mid June in Alabama. 45 minutes OUTSIDE of Montgomery. We looked the place up on the map and all BC could say was "wow. that's really far south."

Now, just because I moved out of Jersey at age 17 doesn't make me any less of a Jersey girl at heart. And all I could think was, "how are they gonna deal with me?" I already figure I'll gain big points with the feminist bumper stickers. Maybe I'll have to find one that says "I'M A LIBERAL YANKEE" in bold print and see how they react.

Now, I'm all for visiting all kinds of places, and I think everyone should live however they want to live. But, of course, I said that before I thought there was a chance of me living next door to them.

So, keep your fingers crossed for Scranton.

Um, it is my name, right?

Earlier tonight, I was reading tangentwoman and getting to know her a little better and came across a post I just had to comment on. She talked about being at a work related dinner at her husband's (the smelmooo) company and learning that for some reason it confused people terribly that she kept her "maiden" name.

This cracks me up because I wanna say "WELCOME TO MY WORLD." The number of times that I hear comments about my name (such as "didn't you WANT to get rid of that name" as my family-of-origin's name is rather difficult to pronounce) amazes me. Last week, in fact, I got semi-hit on by a student who made a comment about hitting on me if it wasn't for the rock on my finger and the hyphenated last name because he "doesn't know what that's all about." (And, for those of you with the dirty minds, I work in a college. The student in question is about 2 years older than me.)

So, for those of you who haven't thought this whole name thing through yet, here are some things for you to think about:

1) The name is not hard for me to say. It isn't hard for you to say either, if you weren't so f-ing stupid.
2) Yes, I am a feminist. Now take that nasty look off your face.
3) I had my name for 26 years before I got married. My husband is 3 years older than I am. If he was younger, and had his name for a shorter period of time would he have to take my name?
4) No, his family isn't upset about it. Neither is he.
5) No, Mrs. Driver's License lady, my name is not "wrong" in your system because I hyphenated.
6) No, many many family members, it isn't "proper" to address us as Mr. and Mrs. HIS LAST NAME just because it's shorter and easier. If my last name was 15 letters all on it's own, would you be allowed to just take out random letters of it? I'll try that with your last name next time.

Ahhhhhhh...... What a relief!!! I feel so much better now :)

The Question...

The Question of the Day is: Is it wrong to drink 2 1/2 glasses of wine at work and make fun of the Executive Director?

The Answer of the Day is: Not if he's the one buying the alcohol.

Ahhhhh... sometimes I love my job....

Redneck???

So, does it make you a redneck if you spend your Saturday night drinking Bud Light from a keg and watching NASCAR on a massive projection TV in someone's backyard while sitting around a fire pit and wearing a Budweiser cap stolen from off someone's head?

That was my Saturday night. I believe I've crossed over to the dark side.
