Happy and Unhappy list
Well, at 9:20 on a monday morning, I can't come up with an all happy or all unhappy list, but I wanted to share a few things.
1. This morning the girl at Panera told me "that's awesome!" (very excitedly) because I had exact change. I have never before seen someone quite so happy about 37 cents.
2. My freak of an employee emailed me to tell me that, after spending the weekend in the Peace of the Lord, he's no longer going to be a pain in the ass. I am not a religious person, so perhaps this is why I don't get the connection. If you were that religious, though, wouldn't you have been able to know you were being a jerk without having to go to church?
3. One of my newer friends and I were talking about why it was that he had never heard anything about me before we met about a month ago, despite the fact that one of his friends and I have been friends for 10 years. He said it's because our mutual friend didn't want to share me. That was a nice thing to say. Total crap, but a nice thing to say.
4. Tomorrow, some of the people with whom I work are having an intervention. It is "how do we work with Karen???" They emailed me and called it team building, but I have my spies. So, apparently, the best way to work with someone is to blindside them and call it team building.
5. Next week, I get to go see my former students, my babies, graduate. While I'm starting to get to know some students here and even starting to feel a little useful, there will never be anythign like my old students. I recognize, of course, that I have been gone for 6 months and they have forgotten about me, but it will still be good to see them.
6. Another bad thing -- the bruce tix go on sale on Saturday morning. Now, most times, this would be perfect because I have no life and saturday morning is a time when I wake up early to do nothing. This Saturday, however, I will be being a super geek at NJ History Day.
7. Sunday is the bamboozle festival. This may be an exercise in "look how old you are" but there are also a few really good bands and jordan catalano will be there. He will be playing Jared Leto in 30 seconds from mars :)
8. One of my friends is going out for drinks with one of the guys from our fav. cover band. This seems like a very odd change of events because I do not generally believe that they have lives off stage. It just seems very very strange.
9. I get an amazing amount of leave time. I will make it through this fiscal year having taken only 1 day of vacation, because obviously you use the personal time (not able to be carried over or paid out) first. As of July 1, I will have something like 13 days of vacation with more accruing every pay period. And on july 1, I get 5 more personal days.
10. Finally, there's something about the comfort of old friends that I would like to find a way to celebrate. I have 2 really good old friends (defined as knowing them for 10 years or more) in particular who I can always count on for anything and to whom I can say anything. They do not judge (at least not to my face) and there is nothing I can say that they are shocked by because they accept me as I am. I am lucky to have many really good people I call my friends but many, even some of the best, aren't very much like me or don't understand my intentions and therefore don't understand what I mean by some things I say or do. So, to the two old friends who really "get" me, I say thank you. Hallmark should make a card for that.
